Review: Matched by Ally Condie

MATCHED by Ally Condie

Publisher: Penguin Young Readers Group
Format: Hardcover , 369pp
Age Range: Young Adult

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Mini Review:
Imagine a world where everything you’ve done is analyzed into data that determines your perfect match along with nutrition, skills, and job placement even death. In Condie’s exciting debut, Cassia finds out exactly how far the Society will go to create a perfect world. MATCHED is a captivating page turner that’s for sure!

First off, I love the love triangle aspect of the books I read. It makes me feel like I have a choice in which character I think the protagonist should choose. In the case of MATCHED, I’m a little torn. I would have liked to know more about Xander as in more scenes with him and Cassia. But, I guess the Society had something else in mind. I don’t want to go into more detail and spoil anything for readers who’ve not read the book. I did enjoy the characters and the risks they took to protect one another.

This book is a great start to an exciting new series, one I can’t wait to find out what’s in store for Cassia’s future.

  1. I really liked this book too. My daughter snagged it first and couldn't put it down. I can't believe I actually read a book before you. It doesn't happen often.

  2. LOL. My little 2 month break put me behind on books released in November and December so I have alot of books to catch up on that were released during those months.

I'm glad you enjoyed the book. I'm excited to see what happens next!

  3. Enjoyed your mini-review! I have this one in my TBR pile and am looking forward to reading it!

  4. I'm glad you liked this one. I added it to my wish list based on one review. Now I want to read it even more.

  5. I want to read this one, but I'm really tired of cliffhangers. Does this one end with resolution, or does the reader have to read the next book to know what happens. If so, I'll wait til the next one is closer to coming out.

Do you know how many in this series or what book #2 is called?

  6. Ah yes...thoroughly enjoyed this book myself. Can't wait to read more of it....thanks for the non-spoiler review for all those yet to experience the greatest of this particular book. Happy reading!

  7. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews for this - seems like people either love it or hate it, and I'm really enjoying reading about who thinks what.

Glad to hear you liked it, I'm going to keep my eyes open for it in the library.

I want to hear from you, I promise I won't bite!
