Meet the cast of City Love by Susane Colasanti
What was your best experience while living together during the summer before college?
Rosanna:
Finally being in New York City. I’d known New York was my true home for so
long. Getting to live here after dreaming about it all these years is still
something I’m grateful for every day.
Sadie:
I loved getting to know Rosanna and Darcy. We’re different in a lot of ways,
but it was obvious that the summer would bond us for life. I was surprised how
much we had in common.
Darcy:
My girls freaking rule. Some roommates can be uptight about keeping the
apartment immaculate. So what if the living room is messy or the dishes don’t
get washed right away? There are way more important things happening. The
dishes can wait.
Rosanna:
Um…
Rosanna:
Other than leaving dishes in the sink?
Sadie:
Darcy snores.
Darcy: I do not snore.
Rosanna:
We kind of recorded you snoring, though.
Darcy:
That? You can get a random snore file from anywhere. Unsubstantiated evidence.
Darcy
and Rosanna: [exchanging a look]
Sadie:
I thought I did. I mean, I did. He
just…wasn’t exactly who I thought he was.
Darcy:
Name one boy who is.
Rosanna:
Jude.
Sadie:
We are Team Jude.
Rosanna:
Love Jude.
Darcy:
Simmer down, ladies.
Darcy:
We wouldn’t be living in a fourth-floor walk-up, for one.
Sadie:
Oh, I love our building! The exposed brick? And those French windows?
Darcy:
Too. Many. Stairs.
Rosanna:
I wouldn’t lose myself in a boy. I would remember who I was and hold on to the
things that matter most to me.
Sadie
and Darcy: [silence]
Rosanna:
Save way more money than you think you’ll
need before moving. New York City is horrifically expensive.
Darcy:
Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Every day brings new
chances for fun! Life is too fabulous to take seriously. Go with the flow and
enjoy the ride.
Sadie:
Look up. There are so many possibilities you miss when you don’t look up, so
many gorgeous details that go unnoticed. This city shines with beauty and
history and non-coincidences. All things you notice when you look up.
Rosanna:
And there are soul mates. Right, Sadie?
Sadie: Of
course. A soul mate could be right around the corner…
I think this character interview provides some fun insight
into the drama these girls encounter in book one. Thanks so much for spreading
the city love!

CITY LOVE by Susane Colasanti
Pub. Date: April 21, 2015
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Age Range: 14 - 17 years
Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna are living together in New York City the summer before their freshman year of college begins. With no parents, no rules, and an entire city to explore, these three girls are on the verge of the best summer of their lives.
Sadie is a native New Yorker. She is hopeful, romantic, and an eternal optimist who is ready to find her soul mate. Then she meets her dream boy: cute, funny, and quirky in all the right ways. The chemistry between them is unreal. Could he be the one?
Darcy is a free spirit from SoCal with rebellious tendencies and unlimited financial resources. Moving to New York City is just another adventure for her. Darcy wants this summer to be all about boy adventures—nothing serious. But how much fun is too much?
Rosanna leaves Chicago for NYC so she can put her past behind her and reinvent herself. The only thing standing in her way is the grand total of seventy-three cents she has saved. Then she meets a guy who wants to show her the glamorous side of New York—a side that she would never get to experience on her own. If Rosanna doesn't resist, she may find herself in city love.
Told from alternating points of view, City Love captures the moments in each girl's life when everything is thrilling, amazing, and terrifying all at once . . . in a way it will never be again
