Sensational 7 Q & A with Stephanie Burgis (Author of Kat, Incorrigible)!

Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like to hang out with your favorite author(s)? In an attempt to get a better understanding of authors, my Sensational Seven Q & A takes a closer or more personal look at these authors to give you a glimpse of the personalities behind the writing of your favorite books.

“Talent alone cannot make a writer. There must be a man behind the book; a personality which, by birth and quality, is pledged to the doctrines there set forth, and which exists to see and state things so, and not otherwise.” By Ralph Waldo Emerson

Stephanie Burgis grew up in East Lansing, Michigan, hopelessly addicted to the novels of both Jane Austen and JRR Tolkien. As she grew older, she added Georgette Heyer, Elizabeth Peters, and Emma Bull to her list of all-time favorites. Now she's writing a series of novels that mix Regency romantic comedy with fantasy adventure for smart, adventurous girls.

On her way, she studied music history and performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and won a Fulbright scholarship to work and study in Vienna, Austria. She lives with her husband, baby, and crazy-sweet border collie in England, where she loves to visit Regency houses, medieval abbeys and castles for inspiration. KAT, INCORRIGIBLE hits shelves today!

If you were given a chance to travel back in time, what year or place would you go / Why?
I would love to travel back to 1803, the year _Kat, Incorrigible_ is set, and spend a day in Regency Yorkshire, taking tea and gossip in the afternoon and attending a ball in the evening. But of course I would be horribly humiliated at that ball, because I have to admit I am a terrible dancer. ;)

Describe your novel in seven words or less?
Smart girl catches her sisters true loves!

Please share with us about your favorite book and fictional crush to date?
I have so many favorite books that I had to create a whole page on my website to cover just a sampling of them:

My fictional crushes have varied a lot over my life, too. My first one was either Mr Darcy from _Pride & Prejudice_ or Mr Rochester from _Jane Eyre_. I swooned over both of them!

Recently, though, I've really loved Owen Armstrong in Sarah Dessen's _Just Listen_ and the Mysterious Marquis in _Sorcery and Cecilia_, by Caroline Stevermer and Patricia Wrede.

If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be / Why?
I'd definitely be Amelia Peabody, from Elizabeth Peters's wonderful Amelia Peabody mystery series (which starts with _Crocodile on the Sandbank_). I love how smart, confident and competent she is, I love her husband and son (in the later books), and they all get into so many hilarious adventures together!

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play thelead role as you/ Why?
I'd love Michelle Ryan to play me in the movie because she's fabulous at playing strong, smart women (and of course she's gorgeous, too).

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be – please explain?
I would absolutely LOVE it to be called _The Unladylike Adventures of Stephanie Burgis_, mirroring the UK series title for my books! ;)

How would you describe yourself/life in seven words?
Hungry for books, travel, history, and castles. :)

**Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?**
I'd like to let everybody know that the first chapter of my book is available to read on my website:

I really hope you guys enjoy it! :)

Thanks for stopping by Stephanie!
