Have you ever wanted to know what it would be like to hang out with your favorite author(s)? In an attempt to get a better understanding of authors, my Sensational Seven Q & A takes a closer or more personal look at these authors to give you a glimpse of the personalities behind the writing of your favorite books.
“Talent alone cannot make a writer. There must be a man behind the book; a personality which, by birth and quality, is pledged to the doctrines there set forth, and which exists to see and state things so, and not otherwise.” By Ralph Waldo Emerson
JESSICA WARMAN is also the author of Walker's Breathless. She has an MA in creative writing and studied at prep school and Yale. She is in her twenties, a marathon runner, and a mother of two young girls. She lives in Pennsylvannia.
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES hits shelves September 28, 2010
If you were given a chance to travel back in time, what year or place would you go / Why?
I think I would go back to the year 2000, specifically the summer of 2000. It was the summer after my freshman year of college, and I’d just started dating the man who would later become my husband. I was taking a few creative writing classes for college that summer, and I lived in my first apartment all by myself. All I did was write, go on dates with my husband, and enjoy falling in love. It was probably the best time of my life, and I’d love to revisit it!

My favorite book is probably “Infinite Jest” by David Foster Wallace. I truly believe he’s the greatest writer of the 21st century so far. My fictional crush, no question whatsoever, is Del Sugar, the male lead in “Where the Truth Lies.” I’ve written several books about Del that follow his life from his teenage years into adulthood, and I’m completely fascinated by him. He has become almost like a real person to me. I adore him.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be / Why?
I think I’d like to be Phoebe, Holden Caulfield’s sister in “Catcher in the Rye.” She’s so fiercely smart, even though she’s just a kid. Plus, I would love to experience having Holden for an older brother! If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be / Why?
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play thelead role as you/ Why?
That’s a tough one! Hmmm… I think my favorite actress is Kate Winslet, so maybe her? Although we look nothing alike. I’ve been told I resemble Cameron Diaz, but she seems a lot more outgoing than me. Maybe I’ll leave that one up to a casting agent…
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be – please explain?

Probably “Driven,” or something similar. I’ve never wanted to be anything but a writer, and from high school onward, I spent pretty much all of my free time trying to get published. I’ve been very focused about it.
How would you describe yourself/life in seven words?
**Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?**
Yes! I’m SO excited for the release of my third book, which will be out next year. It’s a thriller, called “Between.” It has quite a few twists and turns, and was an absolute joy to write. It has already been pretty well received – it’s been sold in ten countries! I can’t wait to see how readers respond!

ReplyDeleteGreat seven word description. I also adore Kate Winslet. I think she is such a fantastic actress.
ReplyDeleteSummer of 2000 I had a small infant. I was probably a walking zombie! I don't think I'd go back then.
ReplyDeleteWOW I really like this interview! Great questions and answers! :0)
ReplyDeleteI can't remember what I was doing summer of 2000 lol... probably chasing some boy band around the US. LOL
How unique! Most people don't answer that they'd like to revisit a year in their own life. That's neat. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's so romantic--why you want to go back to 2000. =] Anyway, I love the cover of your new book, and that's great news about "Between"!
